El Palacio Barolo

Today the team has tested for you : the beautiful Palacio Barolo! What a mystical place to visit!

The Palacio Barolo is surely one of the most impressive buildings of Buenos Aires in terms of architecture. It was created in only 4 years, from 1919 to 1923, by Mario Palanti. At that time, it was the highest building in South America! (24 floors in total). The architect was inspired by the famous Divine Comedy :
  • The 100 meters of height correspond to the 100 poems of the Divine Comedy
  • The building is divided into 3 parts, like the masterpiece (hell, purgatory, heaven)
  • Each floor includes 11 or 22 rooms, corresponding to the number of verse in the poem
  • The hall in the entrance is composed of 9 vaults; the poem mentions 9 infernal hierarchies
The Divine Comedy is a worldwide reputed masterpiece, made by Dante Alighieri during the XIV century. It is considered as one of most important records of the medieval times and one of the most important masterpieces of all times in literature.  It is also considered by specialists as the first real document written in Italian. Impressive, right?

At the top of the magnificent building, 300 000 candles permit the beacon to be seen from... Uruguay! Maybe in order to reach the famous Palacio Salvo in Montevideo, designed by the same architect...? As the beacon is lit by our guide, we felt the warmth coming from the (still) existing candles...

Nowadays the building is composed of offices and it can be visited for a touristic purpose. The guided tour permited us to discover all the details and symbolical references that are hidden behind the colums, statues and colors of the place. Definitely a mythical and mystical place to see in Buenos Aires!

... We almost forgot to tell you about the AMAZING view from the 14th floor. Vertigo guaranteed! Photo lovers, you will be thrilled!

MORE INFO

The guided tours exist in Spanish and English
We recommend you to visit the palace at night to experience the incredible light effect of the beacon and join the wine tasting at the end of the visit in an old-style office.
Entrance from AR$110 to AR$210
